The gorgeous 2024 vintage of estate Chardonnay is grown in the cool AVA of Los Carneros Napa Valley.
A beloved vineyard plated to vine in the Los Carneros region, the Tai vineyard is planted upon rolling swells of Diablo soils in the southern end of Napa Valley. Known for producing liquid gold, this estate vineyard of Chardonnay Dijon Clone 548 is planted in tight rows oriented east to west to capture abundant sunshine and encourage even ripening.
The vineyard is nestled in soils with high runoff on a bed of sandstone and unsolidated silty clay over shale which lends a wonderful minerality to the grapes. As they bask in the sunshine, the clusters enjoy the effects of the cooling breeze and fog emerging from the San Pablo Bay. Summer temperatures in Carneros rarely exceed 80°F which is ideal for producing an elegant beautifully balanced and aromatically expressive wine.
Following primary fermentation of the must, the wine was transferred into barrel for slow methodical malolactic fermentation on native yeast. After 2 months the wine was almost dry and showing complexity. Sur lie ageing continued until bottled with gentle stirring every few weeks. It is a labor intensive method but the end result gives the wine dimension, texture and complexity.
“When emerging from the bottle butter cream, lemon verbena and honeysuckle and are evident on the nose. A kiss of French oak lends a rich textured to a wine balanced with bright acidity. Like a brisk morning walk through the farmers market at the height of the summer season; the senses are engulfed with a plethora of floral and fruit; acacia flower, apricot, mango, kumquat and shortbread baked with a dusting of nutmeg.”
Fully appreciate this wine from release thru 2028.
