2019 Sauvignon Blanc
Premier vintage of Aratas Wine 2019 Sauvignon Blanc from Los Carneros in Napa Valley.
100% Sauvignon Musque clone
Our inaugural vintage of Sauvignon Blanc leaps from the glass like a buds from the vine on the first day of spring.
Cool, crisp fruit from the vineyard in Carneros was grown just steps from our winery crushpad. A delightful elegant vintage with aromas of honeydew melon, kiwi, lemongrass, nutmeg and just a sip of citrus notes. An essence is key lime is subtle but reminiscent of a scoop of sherbet on a warm day. There is also a hint of wet rock and ozone which gives the wine quite a complex bouquet overall.
The grapes are a Sauvignon Musque’ Clone which arrived from Bordeaux in the 1960’s. It’s widely sought after as it has benefited from several generations of adaptation to the California way of life. It’s renown for its enticing lifted aromatics. Our clusters were hand harvested and sorted then optically sorted once again via Selectiv’ process for additional quality. Fermentation was performed using two methods; partly in stainless and about 30% barrel aged on light to moderate lees for 6 month in neutral oak. This was done to enhance the mouthfeel of the wine. The bottled wine is sealed with Lafitte natural cork closure and while it’s a wine that it ripe for enjoying right now it will evolve for some time. This is our first release of this very limited wine. Just 69 cases produced.
